29 November 2018, GENEVA – On 27 November 2018, the Executive Director of the Geneva Centre for Human Rights Advancement and Global Dialogue, Ambassador Idriss Jazairy, paid a visit to the South Centre where he was received by its Executive Director, Dr. Carlos María Correa.
The purpose of the meeting – held at the South Centre’s Headquarters in Geneva – was to explore the possibility of initiating joint initiatives between both Centres to strengthen the voice of developing countries on matters related to the promotion and advancement of human rights, economic development and promoting a value-driven human rights system.
In this connection, the parties agreed to explore the opportunity of organizing joint initiatives so as to promote the voice of the Global South in human rights and economic discourses at the United Nations that often remains neglected and sidelined by decision-makers and international organizations.
During the meeting, the Executive Director of the Geneva Centre likewise extended an invitation to Dr. Correa and staff of the South Centre to participate in the 10 December panel debate on “Education for Peace in a Multi-Religious Context.” The latter will be organized by the Geneva Centre, the World Council of Churches and the UAE Permanent Mission to UN Geneva at the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Both parties agreed to organize a follow-up meeting in the near future to concretize the collaboration between the Geneva Centre and the South Centre.
